Capitol Hill
Shades Of Blue
After purchasing their new home, this family of four and their dog, Franklin, set out to completely transform the space with a modern renovation. Tasked with updating the house during quarantine, we undertook the entire design process remotely, crafting a fresh vision for their home.
The renovation centered around relocating the kitchen to create a more open and functional layout. By centralizing the kitchen and adding an island, we created a space where the whole family can interact and stay connected while enjoying different areas of the home. We also tackled a major challenge: an oversized, awkward fireplace that dominated the living room. Removing it freed up valuable space, allowing us to design a feature wall with bookshelves and a mantle, which significantly elevated the room's aesthetic.
To enhance the home's modern appeal, we replaced all existing baseboards, door, and window trims with sleek shaker-style trim, and installed new oak flooring throughout.
One of our favorite elements of this project is the incorporation of arches, a nod to the home's original details. We preserved a charming archway in the upstairs hallway and echoed this feature in the kitchen-dining wall and living room built-ins, creating a cohesive and stylish design throughout the house.
This renovation not only modernized the home but also celebrated its architectural nuances, blending functionality with aesthetic beauty.
