Lifecycle of a Project: Construction Administration
Once the construction drawings are completed, the contractor is chosen, and the permits are in hand, construction can begin! All of our clients look forward to the day that work begins on their project. While this phase is very exciting, it can also be very stressful. That is why at HDID, we have a framework in place to keep the line of communication open between all stakeholders throughout the duration of the project. This is what we officially refer to as the Construction Administration phase.
After construction has officially kicked off, we invite all parties involved (the homeowner, contractor, architects, and structural engineers) to meet once a week on the job site to discuss the project at large. We will begin with an overall update about where the project stands, what has happened over the prior week, what will happen in the upcoming week, and any issues that need to be solved at the time. For example, issues may arise after the demolition and we can see what is "behind the walls." During our meeting, we immediately tackle these issues before they become more significant problems. The purpose of these weekly meetings is to make sure we are all on the same page and moving forward.
In between these weekly meetings, the HDID team is constantly in contact with the contractor, taking care of any minor issues that may arise. We will also work hand-in-hand with our vendors to approve drawings and specifications before a made-to-order product (such as a piece of furniture or cabinetry) is produced. We will take care of all the technicalities so that our clients don't have to. In the end, it is our goal to take the burden off the homeowner.
Throughout this phase, we will ensure that all materials are ordered and delivered to the job site at the proper time. This is especially important given the many supply chain delays we are currently encountering; lead times are constantly being checked and accounted for by our team. At this stage, we will also handle any returns that need to be made.
There are many moving parts throughout this phase, and it is our commitment to keep the lines of communication open with all parties and to take the burden off our clients' shoulders.
